Two competing systems race for the rest of the century while the empires that carved up the previous one dissolve into new nations. What's left, still being built, is a single networked, interdependent world — for better and worse.

This is the one epoch on the timeline still being written, by everyone alive to read it. Its boundaries and its verdicts are the least settled of all six — which is exactly why it deserves the same scrutiny as the other five, not less.
